Private University and Preparatory School: General Compliance Assistance
GeoInsight provides environmental, compliance, and engineering support to a major private university with over 4,700 students. The university owns and operates a 200 acre campus located in a suburban setting. GeoInsight has helped them to maintain consistent compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and has supported a significant campus-wide sustainability effort.
Sustainability Efforts
The university sustainability program includes the generation of 95% of its own power with an on campus natural gas fired combined heat and power plant (CHP) which was awarded an EPA CHP Energy Star Award in 2010. GeoInsight has a long history of working with the university to provided environmental compliance reporting, permitting, assessment, and compliance assistance.
Key Projects GeoInsight has Completed to Date Include:
- Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) reporting, including Tier II
- Obtaining Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection New Source Review (NSR) Operating Permit for 4.6 MW cogeneration turbine including required emissions calculations, permit application and agency interaction
- Assistance with regulatory requests and agency inspections
- Preparation of Pre-Inspection Questionnaire (PIQ)
- Review of greenhouse gas reporting through the ACUPCC (American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment which included review of calculations for facility emissions and reductions
- Preparation of General Permit to Limit the Potential to Emit (GPLPE) registration including calculation of campus emissions
- Air permit record keeping including fuel use and emission sources and annual calculation
- Assisting the University in waste management including hazardous, universal and state regulated waste materials
- Development of Spill Prevention Countermeasure and Control Plans (SPCC)
- Employee annual environmental refresher training
- Management of on site emissions testing program for stack testing of CHP turbin
- Providing required environmental audit and Phase I update in support for Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities (CHEFA) bond issuance
